HealthRight Recognition and Awards Celebration
Individuals and organisations who have made a contribution to improving the health of people with mental illness over 2007_2008 were officially recognised at the HealthRight Recognition and Awards event on Thursday 11th September, 2008.
Project Officer Anne Bates said “The HealthRight Awards was an important way to acknowledge those who have made a commitment to supporting people with mental illness to look after their physical health. People with mental illness are often marginalised in the community and they can be affected by low confidence and motivation and reduced capacity for self care. That’s why support and encouraragement from others are vital for improved physical health and the recovery process. There are many enthusiastic and dedicated individuals and organisations committed to improving the physical health of people with mental illness and it is essential that these success stories are recognised".
The Awards were the culmination of a one-year Healthy Lifestyles program, funded by Healthway. Special guests at the event included the UWA Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences, Professor Ian Puddey, Professor Sasha Janca, Head of the School of Psychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences and Clinical Consultant from the Office of the Chief Psychiatrist, Tim Rolfe.
There were 2 winning catagories and 1 special commendation made.
